Résumé: The aim of this article is to characterize the adoption and the usage of the main Educational Information and Communication Technologies (EICT) by Higher Education Teachers (HET) in France. Based on a questionnaire administrated for 615 HET our study try to understand the daily usage of EICT. Our methodology is to approximate the intensity usage of EICT by calculating scores for a variety of usages (communication, information and collaboration). By this way we have characterize different digital divides (first and second levels).
For the adoption of EICT, our study demonstrates a quick evolution of the usage of General Purpose Applications like (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). However, HET faces structural barriers for using more sophisticated technologies like database software’s.
Five main explanatory factors were considered in this study: Gender, Seniority, Tenure, E-Learning and Research activity.
